Visiting the Alpacas

This is an Alpaca. No, it's not a baby. No, the head isn't weird. This particular one just didn't get shorn all of the way, his head is next. We thought it looked like a bobble head.
Alpacas are like Mini Lama's. They are super soft and like to cuddle. You can read all sorts of interesting facts about them here. I took the Muffin to see the Alpacas at a local farm. She was able to get right next to them. There were three babies. Two one week old babies, and one two week old baby.
If you look real close here on the left you'll see a black baby Alpaca. Muffin had just per this one and jerked her hand away just as the picture was being taken. This Alpacas name was Thunder. He was just a week old. He weighed 13lbs when he was born. They gain a pound a day.

Muffin preferred to look at them from a safe distance.
She even liked peeking at them through the gates.

But she didn't like it at all when they came up to her. This little fawn colored one was two weeks old. He was pretty active and freaked the Muffin out. He followed her all over the place.

Mostly though she thought it was fun looking through the rails, picking up the dirt and rocks, playing with the gate and some weird little harness that she found. When we first got there she was the only child there. The owner picked up the two week old to introduce them. Muffin was very leery, and when the Alpaca started to nudge and sniff her, the Muffin kinda freaked out. But after the other kids from her playgroup arrived, and they showed interest in the Alpacas and the Muffin saw that it was ok to touch them, she didn't seem to mind petting them...as long as she went after them, and not the other way around.
